The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) coordinated flights from the British Virgin Islands (BVI) for Jamaican Nationals who have requested to return home due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma and Maria. The mission was made possible by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), Passport Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA), the Register General Department (RGD) and the Jamaica Customs Agency.

JAMAICAN NATIONALS RETURN HOME AFTER THE DEVASTATION The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management is announcing the evacuation plans for our Jamaican Nationals from countries impacted by Irma. The aftermath of Irma left some of our Jamaican nationals in impacted stated wanting to return home. The Government of Jamaican (GOJ) formulated plans to assist Jamaicans wishing to leave the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

HURRICANE IRMA As we move into the typically more active period of the Hurricane Season, we are now aware of the existence of Hurricane IRMA and Tropical Storm JOSE Hurricane IRMA is expected to start impacting some islands of the Lesser Antilles on Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

Tracking Hurricane Irma The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) and the Meteorological Service of Jamaica continue to watch the development of Hurricane Irma. On the forecast track, the center of Irma will move closer to the Leeward Islands through Tuesday and then be near the northern Leeward Islands Tuesday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 185 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast on Tuesday.
