SHIPMENT OF RELIEF SUPPLIES TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the Bahamas secure the services of Her Majesty Bahamas Ship - LAWRENCE MAJOR through the support of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. The Ship which arrived at the Port of Kingston on Tuesday October 24, 2017 was loaded with a quantity of relief supplies donated by Scotia Bank, Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Jamaica Information Service, Red Stripe, the Broadcasting Commission, Food for the Poor and Jamaican Citizens.
In addition to relief supplies, the vessel was also loaded with supplies to support members of the Jamaica Defence Force and Linesmen from the Jamaica Public Service who are currently deployed in Dominica.
The LAWRENCE MAJOR departed the Port of Kingston today Wednesday 25 October 2017, with cargo in excess of 60,000 pounds. The ship has a transit of 6-7 days before arriving in Dominica.
It is to be noted that over the period the ODPEM has arranged a number other shipments through the kind courtesies of Caribbean Airlines (CAL) in its efforts to aid the “Help Dominica” initiative being coordinated by the ODPEM as a response to the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria, which made landfall on Dominica Monday September 18, 2017 as a Category 5 storm
The ODPEM is advising the public that while we have closed the collection facility for relief supplies, monetary donations can still be made to any branch of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) account number 21-2387304.
