A series of activities have been planned for the month of January with an aim to increase the general awareness of the Jamaican public to the importance of preparing for earthquakes and Tsunamis.
Earthquake Awareness activities will commence with a Press Launch at the ODPEM from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00pm.
A total of 40 Schools both primary/preparatory and high schools from Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Portland and St. Thomas will take part in a Cultural Exchange to be held at Fort Charles in Port Royal.
The ODPEM will engage businesses across the island to increase awareness and encourage Earthquake safety practices.
The ODPEM will commemorate the Great Kingston Earthquake which struck on January 14, 1907 with a live outside broadcast.
