A series of activities have been planned for the month of January with an aim to increase the general awareness of the Jamaican public to the importance of preparing for earthquakes and Tsunamis.



1.         Press Launch

Date - Monday January 8, 2018

Earthquake Awareness activities will commence with a Press Launch at the ODPEM from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00pm. 


2.         Day for Schools & Live Outside Broadcast

Date - Wednesday January 10, 2018

A total of 40 Schools both primary/preparatory and high schools from Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Portland and St. Thomas will take part in a Cultural Exchange to be held at Fort Charles in Port Royal.


3.         Day for Business

Date - Thursday January 11, 2018

The ODPEM will engage businesses across the island to increase awareness and encourage Earthquake safety practices.


4.         Commemoration for 1907 and 1993 Earthquake: Live Outside Broadcast

Date - Saturday January 13, 2018

The ODPEM will commemorate the Great Kingston Earthquake which struck on January 14, 1907 with a live outside broadcast.


5.         Parish Activities


St Ann Earthquake Awareness Activities

The following activities are planned for the Parish of St. Ann in the month of January 2018.

Church Service                                  Request Churches to offer prayer in recognition of Earthquake Awareness under the Theme: Safety from Earthquakes.  Participating Churches includes:

-          St. Ann’s Bay Methodist

-          Faith Tabernacle Church

-          Blood Bought Church

-          Shiloh Apostolic

-          Exchange New Testament

-          New Covenant Faith Tabernacle

-          Stand fast Apostolic Church

-          Grateful Hill Baptist

-          Clarksonville Baptist

-         Emmanuelle Apostolic Pentecostal Church   

Moneague Emmanuelle Apostolic Seventh Day Adventist Church 

School Presentations                        -Launch of Earthquake Awareness Competition in schools

-Earthquake/Tsunami Drill

These activities will be held at

Primary Schools:

-          York Castle Primary

-          Moneague Primary

-          Mckenzie Primary

-          Mt Moriah Primary

-          Discovery Bay Primary

High Schools:

-          York Castle High

Special Education:

-          St. Christopher School for the Deaf
