UPDATE: FIRE AT THE WYNDHAM HOTEL
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM)
wishes to advise that a major fire which engulfed a section of the Wyndham Hotel
early Thursday morning is now under control. Cooling down operations by the
Jamaica Fire Brigade continue.
The public is being advised to exercise caution when traversing the front and
back area of hotel. Traffic has also been diverted as operations continue.
Reports are that the fire began at approximately 12.30am in the kitchen and
ballroom areas and was contained before any damage to the southern end of the
building could occur. All guests were evacuated and relocated with no reports of
injuries sustained.
However, two firefighters incurred burns and were transported to the Kingston
General Hospital to receive treatment.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade, The Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Ministry of
Health are currently at the scene. Further updates will be issued as necessary.
