ODPEM Cautions the Public as the Dry Period Continues
Posted On: Feb 09, 2010The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reminding the public that we are currently in the traditional dry period, January to April. The public is being reminded to pay attention to efforts focused on water conservation and water harvesting. It is important for persons to be conscious of the amount of water used, and seek ways to use less or reuse water whenever possible.
The public is also advised to take the following precautions:
1. Be on the alert to prevent bush and domestic fires, especially during this windy period.
2. At all costs avoid using matches while in dry areas.
3. Smokers, ensure that cigarette butts, matches and other materials are extinguished before disposal.
The ODPEM will continue to monitor the dry period and advise the public accordingly.
