Schedule of Events for Earthquake Awareness January 7- 13, 2018 “Preparing for the quake, help reduce damage after the shake” Jamaica’s location along the northern margin of the Caribbean Plate and the presence of very active faults on the island makes it vulnerable to earthquakes. To create a greater awareness of this threat to the country, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) will be observing Earthquake Awareness Week in January 7 – 13, 2018. The EAW Campaign, will be focusing on earthquake readiness with the Theme “Preparing for the quake, help reduce damage after the quake”

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the Bahamas secure the services of Her Majesty Bahamas Ship - LAWRENCE MAJOR through the support of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. The Ship which arrived at the Port of Kingston on Tuesday October 24, 2017 was loaded with a quantity of relief supplies donated by Scotia Bank, Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Jamaica Information Service, Red Stripe, the Broadcasting Commission, Food for the Poor and Jamaican Citizens.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) wishes to advise the public that the Agency will cease collection on Tuesday October 17, 2017 of disaster relief supplies for the Help Impacted Initiative. We are asking organizations and individuals offering donations to take note of the cutoff date as to not cause any inconvenience. Cash donations are still being accepted and can be made to any branch of the National Commercial Bank (NCB) account number 21-2387304.
