Earthquake Felt in Jamaica
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) wish to advise the public of an earthquake that was felt this morning August 26, 2020 at 7:28 am. The Earthquake Unit reported a moderate earthquake and the epicenter was 8 kilometers east of Mile Gully, Manchester with magnitude of 4.8 and a focal depth of 24 kilometers. There were no reports of injury or structural damages.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management is reminding the public these are the procedures that should be followed during an earthquake:
- Dropdown; take cover under a desk or table and hold on.
- Stay indoors until the shaking stops and you’re sure it’s safe to exit.
- Stay away from bookcases or furniture that can fall on you.
- Stay away from windows.
If you in a high-rise building, expect the fire alarms and sprinklers to go off during a quake.
